Books I love

All my Knotted-up Life

by Beth Moore

Disclaimer: If you have experienced sexual abuse, please be aware that Beth shares her own stories of abuse throughout this book.  Proceed with caution.  If those memories are painful for you, it might be good to wait a few years before reading this book.

I could be best friends with Beth Moore. After reading her autobiography, I feel like we are.

This book is precious. Jewels of wonder on so many pages. I’ve enjoyed Beth Moore’s teachings for years, but this book is just her, just Beth. Like Beth, I also grew up in Arkansas. Because of that, I found that so much of the first half of this book resonated with me. Like Beth, I remember being in Southern Baptist churches as a small kid. I giggled many times while reading her fun memories of growing up in Arkansas!

This book is also painful, and there’s no way around it. Like so many, Beth has experienced a lot of trauma in her life. As hard as those sections are to read, it is a living testimony of how powerful our God is. As you relive her past with her, you can clearly see God working through each and every situation. Nothing was wasted; God is using all parts of her life, the hard and the good, for His glory.

This book also gives her perspective on her break with the Southern Baptist Convention. She handles it gracefully, but honestly. There were many media stories written when she made this decision, but I deeply enjoyed hearing from her own lips why she made that tough call.

You will laugh.

You will cry.

You will smile a lot.

Beth, if you ever read this, please call me. Let’s have coffee!
